WINTER SHARE For 7 years we have extended the summer season into fall and winter utilizing our 2 unheated hoophouses for precious greens and root cellar for storage crops, to provide local food until the end of December. Our winter share starts at beginning of November, picking up where the summer season ends. A weekly share featuring washed salad mix and spinach each share, we invite you to compare our winter share with other local farms. We believe we offer a great diversity and beautiful value! We deliver a 3/4 bushel box featuring greens such as spinach, rainbow chard, dino kale, salad greens, green curly kale, russian kale, collards, komatsuna and bok choy. Also included are fresh herbs such as parsley and cilantro as well as fresh dried herbs such as sage, thyme, rosemary, oregano and marjoram. The roots are potatoes, carrots including rainbow and purple carrots, beets of various hue, celery root, rutabaga, parsnips, winter radishes, daikon, winter squash of various shape and size, pumpkins, garlic galore, shallots, leeks, red and yellow onions, purple and green cabbage, brussels sprouts and turnips. Eggs are available to order. We intend these quantities to carry you into the new year as long as you have a cold but protected spot like a garage, basement or cool part of the house. It's an amazing thing to harvest fresh greens whilst a blizzard blows!
Fresh, Local Food for All Meadowlark Farm is committed to providing healthy food to as many local people as possible. We have a lovely working relationship with the Fresh Food Partnership and through them, the Leelanau Christian Neighbors. Every week through the season we provide a diverse selection of fresh veggies to the food pantry in Suttons Bay. They in turn serve over 200 families in need. The economy has forced many more families into using food pantries for their families' food supply and we expect the need next year to be even greater.
We also offer Solidarity Shares which are funded through shareholder's donations. Last year we distributed solidarity shares to 5 local families. Give what you can to support these shares! Fresh food should be a right, not a privelage....
